Yesterday was Halloween and we celebrated Gere-style. I did school with Isaac and Emma and we just did crafty things. We made a spider using hand-prints, colored spiders and carved pumpkins. Yep, we got to carve pumpkins. Harry has been against most things Halloween since I have known him and yesterday morning I was scouring the internet trying to find something to do with the kids since I told them we were going to have a fun and different school day. I found this neat project where you related Jesus' light shining through us. You opened the pumpkin and told about Jesus taking all the yuckie stuff out of our lives by dying on the cross and then you carve the pumpkin and set the light in and now His light shines through us if He lives in our hearts. They enjoyed it but Isaac did have a problem with the yuckie stuff. I should have kept my mouth shut about it being yuckie until after he took it all out. He started gagging when he put his hand in to take it out. I told him he had to stop or he would not get to do the project. He powered on with a look of disgust up until the carving. Emma had no trouble getting her hands dirty but then again she is my dirt princess. If she is outside and there is mud to be found she can usually be found in it making mud cakes or whatever you please.
The day finished off with homemade pizzas which were yummy and caramel and chocolate-caramel apples that Heather worked on and of course our traditional movie, "Blackbeard's Ghost". When Adam and Heather arrived, Heather was dressed up as Pippi Longstocking and Adam was dressed up as Harry, stilts and grey hair included. It was pretty funny! Isaac started off the day as Batman and ened up as Spiderman. Emma started off as Spiderman and ended up as Supergirl. The kids were not to sure about me. I put a bandana on my head, rolled up my jeans and added extra freckles to my face. The were not to sure about those freckles. It is about as original as I get when I don't have much to work with. All in all it was a good and fun day!
