Yep, this is one dirty boy with almost 30 stitches. His first serious injury happened August 11
th or 12
th. Emma was in the bathroom by the dining hall and Caleb and Isaac were knocking on
the window pestering her. Caleb started punching the window and then Isaac decided to punch it. Isaac is quite a bit stronger than Caleb and he punched his arm right through the window. I was in the kitchen at the time and heard the crash of glass but thought nothing of it. Then one of the staff girls comes in and nonchalantly says Isaac punched his arm through the window. I went out to investigate and I see Jean handing Harry a big towel and then Harry taking off on the quad with Isaac. I look towards the bathroom and I see this cute little face peering back at me through the broken window telling me Isaac just broke the window. I went in to make sure Emma was not cut in anyway and then Jean took me up to our house just in time for me to hop in the car and ride down to the hospital with Isaac. Heather took Emma up to their house and she told me later that on the walk up to their house Emma was lagging behind. She stopped to ask her if she was OK and she said in a little quiet voice that she was scared for Isaac. Later on she told Caleb that she she hoped that Isaac would be coming back and that we would be moving to CA and would never see them again. This made Caleb burst into tears. Heather tried to explain to Emma that she already lived in CA and that she would not be moving but she was adamant that we were moving to CA. The interesting thing about Isaac is that whenever he barely bumps himself at home or gets a little scratch it is the end of the world. When he punched his arm through the window there were no tears until we got to the hospital and the doctor had to irrigate his wounds which looked really painful. Overall he did really good and was a brave little boy!
We think Emma was nervous about Isaac coming back because of Harry's injury last year. He spent the week at the hospital and the kids only visited him a couple of times while he was there and Emma, I think, had a harder time understanding what was going on. When I went to visit Harry one afternoon, I left Isaac and Emma with their cousins. When I was driving back onto the camp property I saw Katie walking back towards the dining hall with Emma in arm. I stopped to see what was going on and Katie told me Emma had disappeared when they were all at the dining hall and everyone went searching for her. Katie found her curled up on my chair at home under my blanket whimpering saying she missed her mommy. It made my heart break! That was a confusing summer for both kids. When Harry was finally given the go-ahead to start walking again, the kids were at the doctor's appointment and Isaac was thrilled. The next day at home Harry got in the wheelchair to go across the room or something and Isaac started crying. He couldn't understand why Daddy wasn't walking. We had to explain that Daddy needed to get his strength back before he could walk like normal again. We are very happy that that time has passed but I think it was forever impressed upon the hearts and minds of my little ones and they will never forget that time.
